Discussion

Discussion

The discussion will take place on the 25th of March from 19:30 to 21:00.
AI tools – from generative design algorithms to machine learning-based systems – offer designers new opportunities to push the boundaries of innovation. “AI enhances design by automating tasks, generating ideas, personalising experiences, and fostering creative collaboration.” Or so says ChatGPT, which presents itself in a very favourable light here. But as the use of AI for creative purposes accelerates, so do the ethical considerations about its role in the creative process. Questions around authorship, originality, and the potential replacement of human creativity are at the forefront of discussions. How much creative control should AI have? Can a machine truly innovate? In this discussion, we will reflect on the ethical implications of AI in engineering design and explore how to balance technological advancements with the preservation of human creativity and expression. This discussion examines both the promises and challenges of AI in design, exploring how we can embrace innovation while safeguarding the essence of human creativity and expression.
The discussion about ‘AI and the Creative Process of Design takes place on the 25th of March in the Blauwe Zaal of Auditorium. The discussion will be led by a three-member panel of experts from diverse backgrounds. The evening will be moderated by Jan Willem Wesselink, known from NPO Radio 1.
You can receive a Studium Generale point for this activity. If you want this point, subscribe at studiumgenerale-eindhoven.nl or click on the image below to immediately go to the website and collect it at the discussion.
