Discussion: Rebuilding war-torn cities

Discussion: Rebuilding war-torn cities

The war in Ukraine continues to affect people living in the country’s cities. But amid the destruction and ongoing conflict, the country is determined to rebuild its cities and restore its cultural heritage.
Throughout history and around the world, there are numerous examples of cities that have been rebuilt after war, some almost completely. What happens when a city is rebuilt from the ground up, and what geopolitical and economic realities do its citizens face? Exploring war-torn cities that have undergone remarkable transformations after periods of war and destruction, such as Rotterdam in the Netherlands, allows us to delve into the intricacies, strategies, and lessons learned from the rebuilding process.
In collaboration with Studium Generale, this discussion brought three experts together to discuss and share their views and experiences of post-war reconstruction and reform, with a particular focus on the situation in Ukraine.
The discussion about ‘rebuilding war-torn cities’ took place on the 10th of October from 19:30 to 21:00 at ‘LAB1’ at the Keizersgracht 19, Eindhoven.
You received a Studium Generale point for this activity. If you want this point, subscribe at studiumgenerale-eindhoven.nl or click on the image below to immediately go to the website and collect it at the discussion.

Amvest Investment Management operates around 20,000 rental homes in both the free rental market and social rental sector. They fall under three portfolios: the Amvest Residential Core Fund, the Amvest Living & Care Fund and the separate accounts. In the coming years, Amvest Development will create around 10,000 new homes. These are primarily rentals, but they also develop homes to buy, care homes and facilities. Amvest was founded in 1997 as a joint venture between Aegon and Pensioenfonds Zorg en Welzijn (PfZW).
